Behind the label
Short reports from the places Britain makes things: mills, farms, workshops and shops. Every dispatch has a record behind it.
Everyone who holds a thing is its custodian: the farm, the mill, the maker, the shop, and you. Made in Halifax (53°43′N 1°52′W). Published by Specs. Fashion first, starting with wool. Food next.
Our rules
| How we know | Means |
|---|---|
| Recorded | From the record that travelled with the goods |
| Stated | The business told us |
| Gap | Not yet traced. We show gaps; we never hide them |
| Custodian | Beside a name: the business adds to the record from its own systems |
- We state only what the record shows.
- A closure goes up only once the Gazette, Companies House or the business confirms it.
- News is in our own words, with a link to the source. We never copy a full article.
- Field reports go up only with the business's agreement.
- Our own photos, or ones supplied with permission. No stock, no AI images.
- Sponsored pieces are labelled.
- Farmers and breeders are named only with their agreement.
